This piece was inspired by one of my previous compositions that I was a bit discouraged by. Not that it was all bad, but I was left feeling unfulfilled by the original melody, harmony and overall organization. This project forced me to explore more possibilities within Logic Pro more than ever before. While I don't feel I'm anywhere close to finished, I do feel that, at the very least, that I've found a curiosity that will allow me to discover much more.

I used a time signature of 4/4, with a tempo of 110. For the rhythm, I wanted specific sounds for each instrument. To do that, I decided not to use one specific synthesized drum set, but rather I used sounds from multiple sets. I'm absolutely in love with bass. Of all fundamental sounds, deep bass (or bass-like) sounds are my favorite. For that reason, I created multiple bass lead and ambiance tracks to deepen the overall feel.

I wrote the harmony in the key of Em, and used a chord progression of Em (i), Am (iv), C (VI), G (III), Em (i). In a previous project, I found that truly enjoyed the chords in the key of Em. For me, it evokes a slightly darker, yet relaxed feeling, and sounds beautiful. For the melody, I simply kept composing until I found something that struck me. While relatively short, I love the progression of the notes. This is actually the most encouraging aspect of this project, for me. It inspired me to keep trying new things and to continue to discover new sounds, in new orders.

For my audio track, I went with something simple. In this case, I tried to recreate a short cymbal crash. I did this by recording my voice/breath and applying a channel EQ. For the synthesized tracks, I decided again to go with something simple, as my current skill with dialing-in synthesizers is still fairly limited. The sample-track (short bike-bell) was inspired for the same reasons.

I placed sends for chorus effects on both harmony tracks. I felt it added some depth to each and contributed to the overall sound. Limiters and compressors were added to most of the percussion tracks, as were channel EQs to remove unwanted frequencies. Additionally, I added reverb to the melody tracks for added effect.
